Hall of Fame Award- Bob Valiquette
Bob Valiquette has been with CanWest right from the beginning of the ORGANIZATION in 2000! and from then on he has served in many forms from Manager, Asst Coach and Scout and mostly as Head coach. He and his teams have had many succeses throughout the years winning many medals that his players have taken home with pride.
Many of his former players have gone on to represent the Alberta Cup, moved into the AMBHL , AMMHL then to the big club teams in the WHL, AJHL,BCHL and CJHL. Bob scouts his teams through the winter months putting many hours travelling through the rural areas finding the players that other team have missed and after a intense spring season send them home with a new sense of the game and a higher skill set.
Bob is very proud that both his sons’ ,Dylan and Miles, are former Canwest players, and now they have followed thier father into coaching within the CAN WEST Organization !! He also tries to bring youthful coaching staff into the team to give them a nudge towards taking a stab at coaching themselves in the future.  Even his daughter has become a team booster!!

Bob has been fighting ALS (Lou Gerhigs Disease) for a few years now and says that as long as he can be on the ice working with the kids he will!  Help the fight of ALS at www.alsab.ca  (a small donation can go a long, long way)

Justin Kirkland:  Justin came to the Novice Major Tryouts as a top player in his region.  Although many organizations were recruiting him, he decided to attend the Can West Tryouts.  ,He like the other 90 players that attended were not guaranteed a spot.  The tall lanky young man in the orange tryout jersey, stood out from the first skate.  He was offered a spot on the Van Doo’s a team that progressed to be one of the strongest in the 96 age division.
Justin has played his entire Spring Hockey Career with Can West.  His final two years he played as an underage on a 95 team and continued to make the players around him better.  A very coachable young man, with all of the personal character traits of a Champion.  Hard work, dedication, loyalty and a great hockey sense.  A top student in Alberta, Justin combines his academics with hockey and the many other sports he participates in.

Malcolm Kirkland:  Malcolm has managed several teams and assisted in coaching many teams within Can West.  Malcolm put a lot of hours into his managerial jobs.  Providing his coaching staff with all of the support that his teams needed to be successful on and off the ice.  With a strong sense of team and the best interests of the players are always front and centre with Malcolm.  A very committed member of Camrose Minor Hockey and works with teams within that organization as well.  Malcolm has been the unofficial, consultant to the Can West Hockey Organization, as the directors call him often for his input.  Malcolm has promoted our organization and hockey in general over the years in the area.  His down to earth philosophy in regards to hockey and the young men that play the sport is refreshing.
